What is the Pink Full Moon, Anyway?

Pink Full Moon RitualThis week, along with Mercury moving into retrograde on Sunday (4/9), on April 11th, we’ll experience the energy of the Pink Full Moon.

First, no, the moon won’t actually appear pink (I know, I’m equally as disappointed). Rather, this moon is named after a Native American pink moss called phlox that blooms beautiful bright pink flowers, signaling the coming of Spring.  As far as usefulness to humans, phlox doesn’t have much, but the flowers that bloom each year have a beautiful fragrance and were thought to have air purification qualities. For Native Americans, they signaled the shift in season as well as the freshness and rebirth of Spring. And, like its namesake, this pink full moon is deeply rooted in the energies of releasing, re-birth, and purification.

Often times, we tend to look at the full moon as a negative time.  I’m sure you’ve heard people say that all the ‘crazies’ come out on the full moon– this was always one of my grandmother’s favorite mutterings. In fact, this weekend as I was getting an ultrasound done, the technician casually pointed out that all of the babies she’d scanned that day were uncooperative and not in the right position for a good image, and she was sure it was a result of the coming full moon! In actuality, the full moon is a positive time of strong energies, often signaling us to review and release in preparation for the possibilities in the coming new moon cycle.  This full moon is no different. I like to think of it as energetic spring cleaning for your soul, all the way down to the dust in the corners!

Use this time to reflect on the work you’ve done, decisions you’ve made, and energetic ‘stuff’ you’ve stored away over the fall and winter months. What feelings, beliefs, energies, and thoughts have you picked up and kept over the last two seasons? Are they really serving you? Are there there things that you’ve been carrying that you don’t need, or that reflect an old perspective that you’re ready to move beyond? What rooms of your life could use a little fresh air? This time of the year and the energy of this full moon are particularly supportive of your releasing, reviewing and airing out– take advantage of it!  Remember that this time, like any other, can only reflect the work you’re willing to put into it– resisting or ignoring the opportunities to clear out and refresh your inner self will leave you feeling unbalanced and out of alignment over the coming weeks. If you do start to feel that way, take it as a sign to get your butt in gear and do the work you know needs to be done.  Every feeling we experience is a communication from our higher selves, guidance, and the universe around us, and the feelings that surface for you during this time are no different. The only question is how you will respond to them.

Soulful Spring Cleaning: Visualization & Journaling Exercise

I am a firm believer that it’s important to give ourselves practical tools to take advantage of times like this, otherwise, just telling you what’s going to happen won’t do you any good. Since the energies around us are 100% reflective of the ways in which we choose to show up, I want to make sure that you have a way to do some of the work your soul is crying out for.  This exercise is great for this coming full moon (I intend on doing it myself tomorrow night!), especially as this moon is coming to us in Libra, the peaceful, balanced archetype of the skies, bringing forward energies of wisdom, harmony, and balance– exactly the result we want after a good round of spring cleaning! You can also repeat this exercise at any time, full moon or not, so be sure to save it so you can return to it whenever you’re feeling a little unbalanced or like a good life-cleaning would be in order.

You can do this exercise as a visualization in your mind, or, if you’re the easily distracted type like myself, feel free to get out your favorite journal and draw or write your way through the process!

Imagine your life as a house. Each room in this house represents different areas of your life– if you’ve chosen to journal through this exercise, feel free to draw a floor plan of your house, labeling the rooms with the areas that they represent. Be open to this part of the process, you may start out feeling like you don’t know how your life would appear in house form, or what rooms should be included or not included, but the more you let go of the idea of doing it right and just follow whatever comes to mind first, the more you’re allowing your subconscious mind to inform the end result.  Once you’ve put together your the house of your life, no mater how large or small, or what individual rooms came to mind, take a moment to take a few deep breaths and ask your guidance to bring you insight into the areas of your life that need attention, reorganizing, or reordering. Ask that they guide you through the rooms of your life with light and love, allowing you to gently become aware of the things that are no longer serving your best and highest good.

Now, imagine walking though the rooms of your house, one at a time, either visualizing or journaling the information the comes to you in each room. Start at the front door, and walk into the first room. Knowing already what this room represents, pay attention to what you imagine or see in this room. Are there any objects, energies, or people that seem out of place, misaligned, or like they don’t belong? Ask your guidance to remove those things, paying attention to any emotions or resistances that come up as they go. Are there any dark areas or spaces that seem less than colorful, dull, or old? Ask you guidance to shine light into those corners and places, illuminating what the dark is hiding there, and asking them to remove anything that it out of alignment or does not belong. Finally, imagine a fresh, purifying breeze flowing through this room, in each corner, against each wall, under and around any objects that might be in the room, gathering up any residue of old things that are no longer serving your best and highest good and leaving behind it a bright, new energy– the energy of possibility, freshness, and alignment. At this point, the room should look and feel different in some way. Check again for any remaining dark areas or things that don’t belong, and if it feel settled, move onto the next room.

Repeat this process for each room in your house, being open and noting the things that come up as dark or misaligned in any way. If you are journaling through this process, make note of these objects, people, or energies.  Also note how different the rooms look and feel as you clear each one. The feelings, energies, and images that come up as you clear the rooms of your house are more information– cues for moving forward and making new plans, new decisions, and new physical rearrangements in your actual life. Your guidance will use this opportunity to reveal things to you that you may not have been aware of before, or maybe remind you of things you know need to shift but perhaps have been avoiding.

When your each room in your house has been cleared, imagine walking back through the house, stopping momentarily in each room and thanking your guidance for helping you with this particular area of your life. Before you leave each room for the final time, repeat the following, preferably out loud: “I welcome transformation in this area of my life. I welcome growth. I welcome abundance. I know what I need and I am loved, supported, and ready.”

Finally, as you imagine walking back out of the front door of your house, turn around and look at the house as a whole. Imagine placing a gold and white bubble of light around the house of your life, thanking your guidance in advance for protecting you from things that aren’t aligned with your best and highest good. If you’re journaling, draw a protective aura around the floor plan that you drew (it can look like anything you’d like).

Before you end, press gently on the acupressure point between the knuckle of your pinky and the knuckle of your ring finger (it doesn’t matter which hand) and repeat the following: “There are part of me that have been healed by this. And there are parts of me that have not yet been healed. The parts of me that have not yet are willing to learn from the parts that have. My mind, body, spirit, and energy system are accepting that information now. New neural pathways. The information transfer is complete. I’m grateful, thank you, Together Divine.”

Take a deep breath and open your eyes.
